Il y a les légendes qui restent fidèles à un seul maillot, et il y a les voyageurs dont la valeur se mesure au nombre de tampons sur leur passeport de hockey. C'est dans cette seconde catégorie que s'inscrit la carrière de Benoit Pouliot, qui a récemment annoncé sa retraite de la LHSBA. Il laisse le souvenir d'un ailier talentueux et polyvalent, un professionnel respecté qui a su rendre de fiers services à plusieurs organisations.


Son parcours a débuté avec les Bruins, l'équipe qui l'a patiemment développé. Après des débuts en dents de scie, il a montré l'étendue de son potentiel lors des séries éliminatoires de 2014 avec une récolte impressionnante de 15 points, avant de connaître une excellente saison en 2014-15. À ce moment, il semblait s'être enfin établi comme une valeur sûre à Boston.
Lorsqu'il a annoncé sa retraite de la LHSBA le '''13 mai 2017''', Benn Ferriero a quitté avec un héritage que très peu de joueurs peuvent revendiquer : celui d'avoir soulevé à la fois la '''Coupe Calder''' et la '''Coupe Stanley'''. Son parcours illustre parfaitement la capacité d'un joueur à adapter son rôle pour aider son équipe à gagner à tous les niveaux.


Toutefois, son chemin l'a mené ailleurs. Échangé aux Ducks, il a connu les deux saisons les plus stables et productives de sa carrière, s'affirmant comme un ailier de "top 6" fiable, capable de contribuer offensivement avec deux saisons consécutives de 40 points. C'est en Californie qu'il a sans doute joué son meilleur hockey.
Ferriero s'est d'abord imposé comme l'un des attaquants les plus redoutables du circuit FARM. Après avoir remporté la '''Coupe Calder en 2011-12''' avec les Worcester Sharks, il a enchaîné plusieurs saisons offensives remarquables. Il a notamment récolté '''84 points en 63 matchs''' avec le Whale en 2012-13, puis atteint un sommet personnel de '''88 points en 63 matchs''' avec le Wolfpack en 2013-14. Il a terminé sa carrière avec une autre excellente campagne de '''85 points en 76 matchs''' en 2016-17.


La fin de sa carrière fut celle d'un mercenaire de luxe, passant des Jets aux Sharks, puis de retour aux Jets. Les équipes faisaient appel à lui pour sa fiabilité et sa capacité à s'intégrer rapidement, que ce soit pour une poussée en séries ou pour combler un vide dans l'alignement.
Au niveau PRO, son rôle était bien différent. Utilisé comme joueur de profondeur, Ferriero misait davantage sur sa fiabilité et sa capacité à contribuer dans les moments importants. Cette polyvalence a atteint son apogée lors des séries de '''2014-15''', alors qu'il a disputé '''21 matchs éliminatoires''' avec les Rangers de New York et marqué trois buts pendant leur conquête de la Coupe Stanley.


Benoit Pouliot ne se retire pas avec une armoire pleine de trophées, mais avec le respect de ses pairs. Son histoire est celle d'un joueur qui a su transformer son talent en une carrière solide et durable, prouvant qu'il y a plus d'une façon de réussir dans le monde exigeant du hockey professionnel. Il était le genre de coéquipier sur qui l'on pouvait toujours compter, peu importe la couleur du chandail.
Son passage des Sharks aux Rangers, dans une transaction impliquant notamment Michael Grabner et Jamie Langenbrunner, témoigne également de la valeur qu'on lui accordait. Peu importe l'équipe ou le niveau, Ferriero trouvait une façon d'être utile : vedette offensive dans le FARM, travaillant fiable dans le PRO et compétiteur lorsque les enjeux étaient les plus élevés.


Benn Ferriero se retire donc comme un véritable gagnant. Ses '''333 points en 296 matchs FARM''', ses deux championnats et sa capacité à accepter différents rôles font de lui l'un des joueurs les plus marquants de son époque dans la LHSBA.

Benn Ferriero : Le rare parcours d'un double champion

Lorsqu'il a annoncé sa retraite de la LHSBA le 13 mai 2017, Benn Ferriero a quitté avec un héritage que très peu de joueurs peuvent revendiquer : celui d'avoir soulevé à la fois la Coupe Calder et la Coupe Stanley. Son parcours illustre parfaitement la capacité d'un joueur à adapter son rôle pour aider son équipe à gagner à tous les niveaux.

Ferriero s'est d'abord imposé comme l'un des attaquants les plus redoutables du circuit FARM. Après avoir remporté la Coupe Calder en 2011-12 avec les Worcester Sharks, il a enchaîné plusieurs saisons offensives remarquables. Il a notamment récolté 84 points en 63 matchs avec le Whale en 2012-13, puis atteint un sommet personnel de 88 points en 63 matchs avec le Wolfpack en 2013-14. Il a terminé sa carrière avec une autre excellente campagne de 85 points en 76 matchs en 2016-17.

Au niveau PRO, son rôle était bien différent. Utilisé comme joueur de profondeur, Ferriero misait davantage sur sa fiabilité et sa capacité à contribuer dans les moments importants.
