			Le 24 novembre 2013, Andy Thomas a officiellement mis un terme à sa carrière, concluant l'un des parcours les plus brefs et les plus déroutants de la LHSBA. Son histoire est celle d'une seule saison, définie par les attentes immenses d'un contrat colossal et une performance qui n'a jamais su y répondre.

			Le 1er octobre 2012, les Panthers ont créé la surprise en accordant un contrat d'un an d'une valeur de 5 millions de dollars à Andy Thomas, un défenseur mobile. Avec un tel investissement, les attentes étaient claires : il devait être un pilier de la brigade défensive. Il a d'ailleurs disputé l'intégralité des 82 matchs de la saison 2012-13.

			Cependant, la saison s'est avérée difficile. Avec une modeste récolte de 13 points et un différentiel de -22, la performance sur la glace n'a pas été à la hauteur de l'investissement. L'équipe a raté les séries éliminatoires, et l'expérience a rapidement tourné court.

			La conclusion fut aussi rapide que la signature avait été spectaculaire. En mai 2013, à la fin de la saison, les Panthers l'ont libéré de son contrat. Après quelques mois sans équipe, Andy Thomas a choisi de se retirer.

			Sa carrière d'une seule saison reste une énigme, un rappel brutal de la pression qui accompagne les contrats majeurs et de la vitesse à laquelle une carrière peut prendre fin dans le monde du sport professionnel.
