			Le 12 mai 2019, Antoine Vermette a mis un terme à une longue et remarquable carrière de huit saisons, laissant derrière lui l'héritage d'un des meneurs les plus respectés et des centres les plus complets de sa génération.

			Leader par excellence, comme en témoignent ses notes parfaites de 99 en leadership (LD) et en expérience (EX), Vermette était la définition même du vétéran aguerri. Sur la glace, il était un maître dans le cercle des mises au jeu (FO 94), un joueur durable (DU 90) et un compétiteur féroce (CK 88).

			Son excellence n'était pas que défensive. Au cours de sa carrière de '''649 matchs''' au plus haut niveau, il a été une force offensive constante, amassant un impressionnant total de '''449 points (184 buts, 265 passes)'''. Son apogée fut une saison spectaculaire de '''90 points''' avec les Hurricanes en 2012-13, le cimentant comme un joueur d'élite dans la ligue. Il a également prouvé sa fiabilité en séries éliminatoires, récoltant '''24 points en 41 matchs'''.

			Joueur très convoité tout au long de sa carrière, Vermette a apporté son talent et son leadership à cinq organisations différentes (Hurricanes, Jets, Islanders, Sabres et Devils). Son parcours de grand voyageur est la preuve de la haute estime dans laquelle les équipes le tenaient, cherchant constamment à ajouter son caractère et sa polyvalence à leur formation.

			Antoine Vermette se retire en tant que modèle de professionnalisme. Il était un joueur qui excellait dans toutes les facettes du jeu, un leader qui a rendu meilleures toutes les équipes pour lesquelles il a joué.
